Coach Trent Clausen and the Creighton Prep’s strength and conditioning program received a 2024 Strength of America award from National Strength and Conditioning Association for having a gold standard in the program This award is measured through four categories, supervision, education, program, and facilities.
“I think that it is just validation for [Coach Clausen] and for our school that we have a guy that is elite in his field,” said head football coach Tim Johnk.
Clausen has only been at Prep for two years now but his impact on the program has been felt.
“Since he’s gotten here there has been so much more energy in the weight room, you know, and the workouts themselves feel better, especially like it’s clear that he knows what he’s doing,” said senior Nathan Wilch. “And for me personally I feel that I’ve just developed so much in the last two years and just have so much fun in the last few years.”
But it isn’t just about the work that Clausen puts into it, the players and students that use the weight room play a big part in it.
“I think that if it wasn’t for the students’ best efforts, the program doesn’t mean anything,” Clausen said.
Clausen wants more teams at Prep and more students to use the weight room and get involved in the program.
“I want all of our students to feel like they’re reaching their full potential with their athletic performance and their physical fitness,” Clausen said. “Getting more students involved in the program either through team workouts or Fitness for Life classes, they can utilize the resources that we do have at Prep.”
But Clausen isn’t the only one that is looking towards the future.
“I’m hoping kids will want to be at the door trying to knock down the door to get in,” head baseball head coach Pat Mooney said. “It’s all about belief in the way that he does things, and they believe in him.”
Clausen has received praises from every coach at Prep for the program that he has built in 2 short years and those changes have been felt by every student or athlete that has been a part of the program.
“Trent has won this award because of who he is,” Johnk said. “He is a great worker and a great guy that these kids believe what he is saying.”
