Prep vs. Kearney preview

The Creighton Prep Junior Jays are rolling as of late. The Jays are on a three game win streak, all three wins being by double digits. The Jays are facing off against the red hot Kearney Bearcats. The Kearney Bearcats have a record of 6-1, their only loss coming to the Millard North Mustangs.

The Bearcats and the Jays have a lot of common opponents, being in the same districts. The Jays and Bearcats have both beaten Fremont, Papillion-La Vista, and Benson. They have both lost a game to the Millard North Mustangs.

District games have a lot of playoff implications, but Kearney Head Coach Brandon Cool says, “The playoff points will take care of themselves next weekend.”

One of the biggest strengths that Prep possesses is the tight end position. Junior Grant Matthews is a standout at the position. He caught 6 balls for 106 yards against the Papillion La-Vista South Titans two weeks ago. This threat at the position contains a lot of formation and motion options to run with the offense.

“Prep will give us a lot of formations and motions to mismatch their TE’s on our secondary,” Cool said.

Tonight’s game has a lot to offer with playoff implications. The atmosphere will be as close to a playoff game as both teams have seen this year. It is senior night for the Jays and they are looking to defeat the Bearcats and move to a 6-2 record.

The game is tonight at 7 p.m. At Burke Stadium.
