Prep vs. Lincoln Northeast preview

Junior Jays look to continue win streak, improve to 7-2

October 21, 2016

The Creighton Prep Junior Jays come into this week’s matchup with great momentum, after they defeated the Kearney Bearcats last week. In a game that seemed to have no defense, the Jay’s offense prevailed, winning 49-42. The Jays improved their record 6-2 on the year, while remaining sixth in the Class A rankings. This week’s opponent, Lincoln Northeast, is coming off a rough loss against the Papillion La-Vista Monarchs, falling 55-20. The Lincoln Northeast Rockets fell to 2-6 on the season after last week’s matchup.

The Rockets have a struggling defense, which allowed 55 points last week, along with 561 total yards, 189 of them passing and 372 yards on the ground. The Jays struggled to run the ball last week, only rushing for 84 yards. However, the Junior Jays got it done through the air, as senior quarterback AJ Hubner threw for over 330 yards and 6 touchdowns, while only throwing 1 interception. Hubner once again tied the Class A record for touchdown passes in a game, with six, his second time reaching the mark this season.

Being the last game of the regular season, this game is huge for the Jays in making the playoffs. They are looking at the probable 6 seed in the Class A state playoffs, which would set them up for some pretty interesting matchups in the playoffs. The game away, in Lincoln, at 7 p.m. on October 21.
