The Junior Jays varsity soccer team is coming off a huge 3-1 victory over #1 Papillion-LaVista South. The season has been a story of ups and downs and with the state tournament closing in the Jr. Jays look to avenge their loss from last year and bring the trophy back home.
In the second game of the season Prep beat Elkhorn South 3-2 but star striker Jordan Igwenma went down with an injury. He has not seen the field since. This is a huge loss for the Jr. Jays as Igwenma led all of class A in goals and points last year.
The loss of Igwenma did not stop the Jr. Jays. They went on to beat the #2 team Omaha South in penalties. But their start of the season winning streak would end after losing in penalties to #4 Lincoln Southwest final score 0-0.
After a quick 5-0 win over Papillion-LaVista, Prep would face the team that eliminated them in the tournament last year, Omaha Westside. After a hard fought game senior Luther Harrington slammed the door and junior Jude Van Belle scored two goals for a Creighton Prep 2-0 shutout victory.
Five days later the Jr. Jays would have their toughest test of the season against the Papillion-LaVista South Titans. This was the second #1 vs #2 matchup Prep had this year and they came to play beating South 3-1. The seniors pulled through with Tim Dowd and Connor Lodes scoring all three of Prep’s goals.
The Junior Jays are rolling through the Metro tournament right now after beating Westview in the first round 12-0, and Elkhorn South in the second round 3-0. Prep now plays Omaha Central, April 13th at 4:30 for a trip to the final. The Jr. Jays are back-to-back metros champions and they hope to continue this dominance this season as well.
