Behind the scenes, the Operation Others Core Team is hard at work. With months of preparation ahead of them, the team held their first large group meeting earlier this month at school. Their canned food drive began in late September where they collect tuna and chicken for delivery day in December
Organizing one of the biggest fundraisers at Prep is no easy task, there’s still a lot of work ahead. The next event is Trick or Treat for Cans on October 29, followed by the Turkey Drive on November 23.
The team remains dedicated throughout the year, working hard in between these key events.
“We’re active in the food bank at The Foodbank For The Heartland, we have groups that go almost every month,” says core team member Jack Van Moorleghem.
Club leader Mr. Paul Lawler’s involvement is minimal as the majority of the club is student led.
“About three hours a week that I have dedicated to Operation Others,” Lawler said. “Later on during the year with Delivery Week, Call In day, which is a full day, the Turkey Drive is a full eight hours. It kind of comes in waves.”
Everyone involved in Operation Others is constantly hard at work throughout the entire school year. It takes a lot of manpower, so during these events student involvement is “extremely important,” says Van Moorleghem,
“Operation Others is a great way to come out and meet people”.
