Rock On

Walking past Room 219, one might hear a thunderous pounding of drums or a majestic guitar riff. Such is the calling card of the Creighton Prep Classic Rock Club.

The club was founded by seniors Chris Johanek and Jake Stahlnecker, as they aimed to bring their love of classic rock into the classrooms of Creighton Prep.

“Chris and I were listening to classic rock at our favorite hangout spot one day and thought, ‘what if we did this at school’? So we decided to bring in some records, get some buddies together and call it the ‘CP Classic Rock Club’,” said Stahlnecker.

The Classic Rock Club meets during the last community period of each week, with a member or two designated to bring an album for the club to listen to. While listening, the club members often engage in debates over which album or artist is superior. Through these debates, they illustrate their knowledge over the subject.

Even though it is one of the newest clubs at Prep, it has already become one of the largest, as it boasts over 40 members.

The club’s ability to bring its members together through their mutual love of classic rock has largely impressed the club’s moderator, Tom Hoover.

“I’m very impressed with the spirit of the group and their enthusiasm for this form of music. It’s really inspiring, the fact they’ve embraced it so wholeheartedly. They really love this era of music,” said Hoover. “They have a constitution they all signed and they may have even taken a blood oath.”
